This page provides general guidance and resources to help employees set up their workspaces safely and recognize ergonomic risks. It does not replace job-specific training or procedures governed by approved SOPs.
Office Workstation Ergonomics
- Adjust chairs so feet rest flat on the floor or a footrest
- Position monitors at eye level to avoid neck strain
- Keep keyboards and mice at a comfortable height to reduce wrist strain
- Maintain neutral posture with relaxed shoulders
- Arrange frequently used items within easy reach
Computer & Screen Use
- Take regular breaks from screen work
- Use the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds
- Adjust screen brightness and contrast to reduce eye strain
- Avoid glare from windows or overhead lighting
Material Handling & Physical Tasks
- Use proper lifting techniques and avoid twisting while lifting
- Ask for assistance or use mechanical aids when available
- Avoid repetitive motions without breaks
- Report tasks that cause discomfort or strain
General Office Safety
- Keep walkways clear of cords, boxes, and clutter
- Store heavy items at waist height when possible
- Use step stools or ladders for reaching high items
- Ensure chairs, desks, and equipment are in good condition
Ergonomic Support & Assistance
Employees experiencing discomfort, pain, or ergonomic concerns are encouraged to speak with their Supervisor, Human Resources, or Environmental Health & Safety (EHS). Adjustments or evaluations may be available to support safe and comfortable work.
